The employees of ATMI, which makes precast concrete products, are mostly immigrant men and from Mexico and South America.
Even though Yanez has been fired from ATMI, he continues to represent his fellow workers, a fact that doesn’t go unnoticed by his friend Jose Ruben Meraz. “We are appreciative of Enrique for the help,” Meraz said.
“ATMI is treating us worse than animals, by firing all these workers; the best workers the company has,” he added. “We feel they are stepping all over our rights. We feel they are treating us in an in-human way. They have thrown us on the street,” he said.
Three ATMI workers said what their annual salary was. Working full-time, including overtime, up to 80 hours a week, salaries included $32,000, $33,000 and $35,000. Bonuses are only available for supervisors.
Caballero, who has been with ATMI for 18 years, makes $35,000. He said their fight is not for more money. “What we want isn’t so much money, or anything like this, we want to be treated well; with dignity,” he said.

It doesn't appear that the 1st vp of the Chicago Hispanic Caucus treated these workers with dignity or respect.

ATMI workers to vote for union representation Feb. 17
By Jennifer Rice
Managing Editor
One employee works so many hours at ATMI Precast in Aurora, he rarely has time for his family.
His shift starts at 3 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. He said he gets one break, which is his lunch, but it’s always interrupted because he has to answers calls on his work-issued radio.
He is worried about being late for work. He is worried about not pleasing his supervisors. He is worried about complaining — and he has every right to be worried, because he and other employees at ATMI are trying to form another union. As an intimidation tactic, ATMI has already fired eight employees, for what one labor official calls “bogus reasons.”
For the employee working 16-hour days, he knows he could be the next ATMI employee to be fired — for little or no reason.
“In the past two weeks, we’ve had some action from the company and they started terminating the union supporters,” explained Laborers’ Local 681 Business Manager Jose Zamarripa Jr., during a Jan. 28 Northern Illinois Jobs with Justice (NIJwJ) meeting.

And who is responsible for abandoning the workers at ATMI? The same one who brought the lawsuit against the Local from Argonne Members and refused to let Oberweis Members vote on a contract proposal from the company that would have avoided the strike.
The same person who is now 1st VP of the Chicago Teamsters Hispanic Caucus;
