Scb,

93% of workers work for employers that have the right under the law to terminate their employment at any time. It's called at will status. Those lucky 7% that you are saying is destroying America are also subject to it at the expiration of the contract mutually negotiated and agreed to. You can't negotiate anything without leverage or you're not negotiating.

If a company wants to terminate an employee or all it's employs for that matter for no good reason, well they are probably not a responsible employer and should be held accountable to the public that purchases their product or services. See workers are in control of market demands when they asked the public to support their efforts and ultimately the public decides to patronize depending on that support. Very simple and that's because the workers own their own labor. Once agreed to a binding contract both parties are held to the standard they signed off on.

The vast majority of jobs shipped out of the country in the last 20 years have been non union ones with no fireworks attached to it. Quietly gone to countries with far cheaper labor.

Now your statement that our lowly ol 7% has singled handedly destroyed the economy is giving us way too much credit. Organized Labor has scared the capital out of this country? Lolololololololol!!!!!! The capital is here, it's exploiting workers all over the world for wages we earned in the early 1900s and that means it will pull ALL of our wages down in the long run including yours.

As far as unions destroying the middle class and are parasites. Unions are not institutions, they are comprised of people that come together for collective action and change with the times as the people see fit. Big business is driving down wages, opened the global market, runs the banks and insurance companies, lobbies congress, controls the media and has fed this rubbish to a point that you actually believe it. Lol.

Big business had big profits before the exit of jobs out of the country, that wasn't enough and they wanted more to go to just a few. They lobbied to trade with China, remember that communist country that they hated until they could exploit their labor? Wow, look at the capital and resources spent to build up the largest country in the world so they could make more money on products we no longer produce. Detroit was built because of American industry, innovation and hard working labor. Those companies made billions over time, created lots of millionaires, then exported the jobs out of the country. You know, companies tell their workers to save for a rainy day, but as soon as the economy has a wrinkle companies don't want to reach into their reserves. They want the worker to pay for it.

I say when it rains you should help your fellow man find shelter, not run for cover and only think of yourself.

Amen, brother

Is that right? You have a long talk with "Mubarek" by way of discovering his feelings, did ya'? [smile]

Sorry, "Shiftalker", but pompous silliness like you just mouthed doesn't cut much with me. You want to compare "Mubarek" with the the democratic majority (a RECENTLY DETERMINED majority, I might add!), then you go right ahead. As for me, I would consider as being a little more "dictator-like" those minority elements of society which seek to enslave the majority to their wishes. Those, to me, are the "Mubareks".

In any case, if you've got an "in" with "Mubarek" and how he felt/feels, then you let me know. Personally, I doubt if you speak a hint of Arabic or have ever even ventured close to where "Mubarek" did his business..but, then again, maybe I'm wrong. I'm well aware that leftist thugs - such as Ortega in Nicaragua, Chavez in Venezuela, Correo in Equador, etc. - have close ties with the remaining North African tin-pan dictator, so perhaps there's reason to believe that someone like you had a relationship with "Mubarek" as well. Strangers things have happened, I guess.

In any case, you planning a mobocracy event like which occurred in Egypt are you? Feel "downtrodden" by those exercising their constitutional right to vote? Think that's the way things should be handled here as well, do you? If so, might I suggest you take a look in the future when, if by chance, YOUR side is in democratic control of the government. Think you'll be just as sensitive to the wishes of a minority mob then when it tries to intimidate YOUR side out of using its democratic rights?

That's a serious question. Not many Teamsters I've found are serious enough themselves to answer it responsibility. They think that "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" is always the answer. And that belief if one aspect of the reason they've got their asses kicked so badly over the last few decades; "thinking with your dick" isn't all that successful a method of obtaining economic redress....especially when that's basically all you have to offer.

-scb-.

Now now scb, let's try to keep your mind out of the gutter and off my "dick" if you please. (smile)

Scb calls working people derelicts and parasites who want ALL the cookies without earning ANY of them. That tells me all I need to know about his character. that and the fact that he is so focused on my penis.

The public sector workers agreed to take their cuts. Is that really wanting ALL the cookies, scb? But scb is the person who said "American workers are doing better than ever before" just three years ago. That's how out of touch scb is.

I wonder what scb does that is more important and worthy of more cookies than a policeman? Maybe he earns more cookies by playing with cocks?

The only people tearing this country’s economy down are the America-hating corporations that take their jobs overseas and the elected leaders that let them. Oh, and people like scb who cheer them on. That is more anti-american than anything I can think of.

Scb, do yourself a favor and go to church and listen to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Or if you worship Satan (that is how you come off from reading your posts) at least take in a viewing of “A Christmas Carol”. I recommend the original with Alistair Sim.

I just hope you never find yourself in a position where you need a cop or a fireman to save your life. Karma can be a bitch.(smile)

My God, where are you guys all coming up with this "cookie" analogy all at the same time? What is there? Some giant "Dick and Jane" playbook, with a couple of simplistic (and none-too-accurate) parables in them that the charlatans have convinced the "right to think less" crowd they have to regurgitate over and over again?

The "people in Wisconsin" voted in the party in power. Granted, there's a highly vocal minority making waves now....but they don't represent "the people of Wisconsin"...or at least the MAJORITY of the people..in any way, shape, or form. Rather, they represent a privileged few who, organized as a mob, want to keep on being subsidized and able to feed unduly off the public trough; I.e. they want ALL the cookies without EARNING any of them.

As for the "disparity", here's a suggestion; go out and EARN your way to "the top", instead of trying to pilfer what others HAVE earned. Radical concept, I know; I.e. - how could people EVER suggest that individuals take responsibility for THEMSELVES. But that's EXACTLY what "the people of Wisconsin" - or at least those who were and are willing to PARTICIPATE in democracy as opposed to short-circuiting in a cowardly fashion - are suggesting. They're sick and tired of covering for derelicts.

The "people of Wisconsin", from what I can tell (and I've been reading the Milwaukee J/S and the comments readers are writing into it on a daily basis), also want the dead-beat legislators back doing their jobs...instead of lounging in another state, sucking (one way or another) off the public teat. Your mistake, I believe, is one of granting exclusive status as "THE people of Wisconsin" to those who are, in fact, diametrically OPPOSED to the democratically expressed interests of the citizens of the state.

Personally, I hope this country never gets to the point where we, as a people, give into mob minority control in that manner. We've already have more than enough parasites engaged in tearing this country's economy down

-scb-

Mubarek felt exactly the same way about the mob of jobless and underemployed people demonstrating in his country.

A simple way to understand the situation in Wisconsin is this way:

A unionized public employee, a member of the Tea Party, and the Koch brothers are sitting at a table. In the middle of the table there is a plate with a dozen cookies on it. The Koch brothers reach across and take 11 cookies, look at the Tea Partier and say, "Look out for that union guy, he wants a piece of your cookie."

Conservatives believe in individual responsibility alone, not social responsibility. They don't think government should help its citizens. That is, they don't think citizens should help each other. The part of government they want to cut is not the military, not government subsidies to corporations, not the aspect of government that fits their worldview. They want to cut the part that helps people. Why? Because that violates individual responsibility.

They believe in the slogan, "Let the market decide". As the ultimate moral authority, there should be no power higher than the market that might go against market values. Thus the government can spend money to protect the market and promote market values, but should not rule over it either through (1) regulation, (2) taxation, (3) unions and worker rights, and (4) environmental protection or food safety laws. Moreover, government should not do public service. The market has service industries for that. Thus, it would be wrong for the government to provide health care, education, public broadcasting, public parks, and so on. The very idea of these things is at odds with the conservative moral system. No one should be paying for anyone else. It is individual responsibility in all arenas. Taxation is thus seen as taking money away from those who have earned it and giving it to people who don't deserve it. Taxation cannot be seen as providing the necessities of life, a civilized society, and as necessary for business to prosper.

The truth is that there is plenty of money in America, and in Wisconsin. It is at the top. The disparity in financial assets is un-American -- the top one percent has more financial assets than the bottom 95 percent. Middle class wages have been flat for 30 years, while the wealth has floated to the top. This fits the conservative way of life, but not the American way of life.

The folks in Wisconsin understand that democracy is about citizens uniting to take care of each other, about social responsibility as well as individual responsibility, and about work -- not just for your own profit, but to help create a civilized society. They appreciate their teachers, nurses, firemen, police, and other public servants. They are flooding the streets to demand real democracy -- the democracy of caring, of social responsibility, and of excellence, where prosperity is to be shared by those who work and those who serve.
