Anyone know what is going on at 848? I hear about the hearing things and that something may happen....what is going on? Why hearings? I be driving most sundays, so can't always get to the meeting.

Two things happened recently.
Joint Council 42 ruled against the charges made by the Walt Johnson slate. So that's good news for the Tate ain't Great Slate. I believe the Walt Johnson charges had something to do with Local 848 Secretary-Treasurer Eric Tate allowing bus driving members from one company to vote, even though they hadn't yet started paying dues. The Walt Johnson slate posted a short statement mentioning the rejection of the charges on their Slate facebook page:

The second thing that happened recently was that Department of Labor investigators were at Local 848 last week. Apparently some 848 member had filed a complaint with the DOL that Eric Tate or somebody at 848 misappropriated Union funds for campaign purposes. I think the investigators were checking receipts for any improprieties.

Absolutly the D.O.L. was at the local last week. I've learned that they were looking for records regarding members who were over 5 months past due on thier dues!! amazing how that is allowed to happen and it took the ballot count to uncover this and force the tate slate to actually do thier jobs. As a dues paying member i am disgusted that they did not know that there were members who were delinquent on there dues. There is also rumors circulating that union funds were used to pay for literature durring the campaign!! a big no no!! we as members no matter who you backed can not allow this type of violations to happen!! if we do then why have elections and we should just annoit the tate slate forever rulers of local 848!! shame on us all if this is true and all the tate supporters allow this to happen. Having said this if the D.O.L. orders a re-do then the violations are in fact true, i say it loud to all that my vote will change to WALT AND NIKKO!!! My vote was swayed by the posting the allegedly Walt was cheating, but i have since learned the TRUTH!!! i wont be suckered twice into voting for an old gaurd shmuck who can not even articulate a point or vision with out stutering!!
