Yesterday was a sad day for members in Local 381. Over 160 employees from The City of Lompoc Ca. voted to decertify from our Local. It is a very bad reflection on the leadership of this once great local. They sited bad contracts and lack of representation as part of the reason. Our Sec. Tres. NEEDS TO RESIGN!!!!!!

Yes I have to say, the" Secretary treasurer" needs to give it to the Slate that wants to make things right! to serve the members we have left the way they need to be served and represented. Go the the Negotiations and fight for as much as we can possibly get for our members. Very sad to hear about the City guys.

Sure would like to know, why the International nor the JC42 does nothing about the corruption within our Local 381 out of Santa Maria, CA. Our Secretary Treasurer and worthless Business agents are losing contracts and running our Local right into the ground. When we need the international or JC42 where are they? Not here to help the members of our local. As long as they get their money they look the other way. Sad to say, but soon there will be more and more NON Union Companies then ever before. As members say if they do nothing for us why the hell pay them and be apart of them!

Local 381 is a very small Local, about 950 after the City of Lompoc decertified and we have 3 full-time Business Agents ( Larry, Moe, and Curly ). Thats less than 350 members per BA and they still don't get the job done! They don't answer their cell phones, Grievances take 6 plus months, grievances are lost and management think they are a joke! We can thank JC 42 for saving them in the last election!!

It's kinda funny when you look at our Local's website, it says that we represent Sanitation Drivers, Public Sector, Construction, Rock Sand Gravel Drivers. All of them have left since Lynn Swenson has taken over our Local! At the current pace we will only have UPS and the contracts at Vandenburg Airforce Base left when the next Election comes up! The IBT and JC42 need to act fast!

How about volunteering to organize new members instead of whining on the internet! Overallowed in 381 is a disgrace to the Teamsters Union!

Its hard to help our Local's leadership when they don't want it!! If you knew them, you would know what I'm talking about. I have been a hard working Teamster for over 20 years as well as a Steward. Have a nice day a decir verdad!

Tuesday our Sec Tres tried to merge our Local into a 14,000 member out of LA! Our Executive Board voted it down. This Local doesn't need us and has no similar contracts! If we are going to merge with anyone, it should be with 186. We are next to them geographically, we share the same contracts and the size of our Local may smaller but is closer to their size. This would give our members a voice and give our contract more negotiating power. IT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE MEMBERS! NOT SAVING YOUR JOB!

Local 381 Secretary Lynn Swenson is like a CEO at a company whose stock price goes way down. They both get rewarded for failure.

In January, Swenson had a large group of 160 Teamsters at the city of Lompoc decertify. But the result for that failure is that he will get a raise. I know he will get a raise because I looked at the LM-2 financial statements for both 381 and 986. Swenson made a lot less per year as S-T than the Local 986 Business Agents did, and still do. When a former S-T gets absorbed into another Local, do you think he is going to get paid less than run-of-the-mill Business Agents? No. Congrats, Lynn. You failed, and you will now get rewarded handsomely for it.

Its not too late to save Local 381--the joint council and the international still have to approve the merge. Theyre interested in any information regarding the loss of city of lompoc and whether anyone has proof that Swenson didn't try harder to keep them cuz he WANTED to lose them so he could say the local needed to merge. If that could be proved, they would tell 381's exec.board to ask for Swenson's resignation. Call 626.974.4212 or email jct42@aol.com if you have any evidence!

At least with our own local, Swenson and his partners in crime are up for a job review every 3 years--if 381 merges we r stuck with those jokers until they retire!
