Yeah, but look how Pacino talks back
Member organizers don't get treated this way, at least, not at my local
Is there a difference between a member organizer and a Teamster organizer?
I wonder what Randy K. would think about your comment. Randy??
I'm gonna get the movie again from Netflix
Glengarry Glen Ross is the worst depiction of humanity
The backstabbing, desperation, lying and deceit -- all as part of the trade, of course.
Member organizers don't get treated this way, at least, not at my local

There is an enormous difference between the two however the best scenario is to have them both together. A skilled volunteer will relate faster to a non union worker but the skilled organizer will give that worker a vision of why you have to have the institution of a union to protect for the long haul.
Organizers should never sell but they should be very aggressive because you have to get people to do what they don't want to do. We have to explain " the process" of collective bargaining. Once someone grasps that the will want to be part of a union forever. Many organizers and our members want to sell your contract, Its not for sale. organizing workers always build their "own" contract not buy mine. If they want to buy it, pay initiation fees and join. Organizing workers "form" their union not join aka buy in.
As far as what other organizers do at the IBT, well they were trained by someone once they became an organizer. Unionbustersandtrolls you make an excellent point, member organizers become a trade unionists before they get paid, making them the best organizers out there. As Bulldog pointed out some organizers learned the trade after they got hired and they fall into the sell trap almost every time because they are pressured to win. When you eleminate the sell aspect in an organizers approach they are able to move workers in the natural direction of building their future one contract at a time through the "the process".
The fact is historically unions, including ours, organized massively without Pension plans and health and welfare plans. Organizers empowered workers, they then pooled their money and created trust funds. They brought people together first then workers figured out how to make bargaining a success. That is the natural process. Most workers organize because the want RESPECT on the job. Selling our Pension and Medical doesn't work and when it does the foundation is flawed.
For us to organize massively again we need to stop selling and get back to basics, member organizing.
