I just today found a link to this nine page story about worker abuses at an amazon.com warehouse in Pennsylvania. The story was posted online on September 17:

I used to make a few purchases a year at amazon.com. But I just now deleted it from my favorites, and I will never will buy anything from them again.

Amazon already has a huge advantage over brick and mortar stores, because those stores have to charge customers state sales tax, while amazon rarely does. But that huge advantage isn't enough for amazon. They have to abuse their workers, who are not directly employed by amazon. Which helps make it almost impossible to unionize the workers, who actually are "employees" of temporary agencies.

It's not just the heat..................

Workers interviewed said Amazon forced them to remain huddled in the parking lot on frigid nights while many workers were wearing only shorts and T-shirts. After attendance was taken to make sure all employees evacuated, warehouse workers said they were not allowed to go to their cars to keep warm. Instead, they were instructed by warehouse managers to use one another's body heat and told that anyone caught going to their cars would be disciplined and could be terminated, workers said.

For the past several months, online retail giant Amazon.com has been fighting tooth and nail to preserve its massive tax loophole in the state of California. The loophole allows the company to forego collecting $200 million a year in sales taxes, which helps it undercut more traditional retail outlets. For the past several months, online retail giant Amazon.com has been fighting tooth and nail to preserve its massive tax loophole in the state of California.

But that’s not the only way in which Amazon seeks to drive its prices ever lower: it has reportedly been pushing its employees to the breaking point in order to gain an edge. A new report by the Morning Call reveals that workers at an Amazon warehouse in Pennsylvania were forced to work brutal hours in 100 degree temperatures and were constantly threatened with termination if their productivity waned:
