Yes, it seems Jim Anderson and the Hourly Workers United Slate has now switched sides and turned on Ken Hall and Hoffa. Despite Anderson hand-billing with Ken Hall in Local 89 jurisdiction, his slate has put out a handbill downing the entire UPS National Master Agreement which, as we all know, was chaired by James P. Hoffa and Co-Chaired by Ken Hall. They are abandoning Hoffa-Hall with a couple of weeks left in the IBT election as they see no reason to pledge support to the incumbents. Jim Anderson, Tony Blair, Larry Despain and James Brown are attempting to characterize Fred Zuckerman as the “approving” official on the National Master in an attempt to kill “two-birds with one stone”; simultaneously distancing themselves from Hoffa-Hall and downing Zuckerman.
But we’ve come to expect these guys playing both sides. In example, HWUS honcho Tony Blair has campaigned for Sandy Pope even appearing on her website. They campaign with Hall, and down Sandy Pope; they support Sandy Pope and say “there needs to be a change in leadership”. They stand, as the vast majority of UPS Teamsters know, only for themselves. They have zero loyalty, and are a political liability to any party lending support.
Take a look at the handbill. You’ll find it insulting.

These jokers claim Local 89 supporters are trying to pit full-time Teamsters against part-time Teamsters, yet the intent of the handbill is just that. They also insult the membership by claiming Zuckerman was the approving party on the National Master, yet the contract was voted in by the membership. They are also attempting to turn UPS Air Teamsters against UPS Ground Teamsters. There is no limit to lows they will drop to in attempting achieve their goal. They have attacked families, lifestyles, members in rural areas, and engaged in sexist insults against members and their spouses. They have cited information from anti-union, right-to-work-for-less, ultra-right-wing groups.
While Hoffa and Hall might think they have an ally in Jim Anderson and co., they have no clue as to how bad they are being stabbed in the back by the HWUS. They no idea as to the votes they lost in Local 89 tying their slate to Anderson.
