I may be over explaining this but please bear with me. At the beginning of each shift we bid our local runs by seniority. We just bid our shifts for the next 6 months which was done by one of our stewards. He made a mistake by putting someone's name on the wrong shift so when my turn came up the open slots presented to me were not accurate. I was told that there was only the bottom slot left on the shift I wanted. Wanting to have a choice on what I run I bid a different shift. They moved the person who was listed incorrectly to the shift he wanted which created a vacancy on the shift he was mistakenly listed on. The next day when I found out this happened I made it known to the stewards that I wanted the vacant position that if I'd have known that I wouldn't be the bottom guy being forced on what was left to run I would've taken the slot. I was told that since I passed on the bottom slot of the shift I couldn't change my bid and take the open slot. A junior man was allowed to bid on it instead. Is this a normal practice in this situation? If not what are my options since it was headed up by the stewards?
what are my options

Once the mistake was noticed the bidding process should start fresh (from top to bottom for all shifts) to be fair. Secondly, why are the stewards running the bids? Management should post the bids and have bargaining unit members (employees) pick their bid in seniority order. The steward should only be making sure that management is doing it this way.
But none the less if they allowed the original mistake (bidder) to rebid then they must allow you and anyone else to rebid, fair is fair! And for the steward/s, if you get nowhere with them then you have to go over their heads to the BA and or Principal Officer!
Good luck.
