There was a time when I used to go to meetings and enjoy time spent there. I would leave feeling confident and proud to belong to such a strong local This doesnt seem to be the case anymore. Each meeting I have attented feels like im watching the Greatest Show on Earth, its the clowns running in and out of the little car.

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL. I REMEMBER EVERY MORNING AN HOUR PRIOR TO THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS, WE USE TO HAVE EXCELLENT SHOP STEWARD MEETINGS. ALL OF THE SHOP STEWARDS WOULD ATTEND RELIGOUSLY ANTICIPATING WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO LEARN NEXT. THERE WOULD BE OVER 200 SHOP STEWARDS PRESENT, AND THEY WOULD LEAVE EMPOWERED. NOW, HARDLY ANYONE ATTENDS, AND THE INDIVIDUALS THAT DO ARE SO DEPRESSED. THERE WAS LESS THAN TEN SHOP STEWARDS WHO ATTENDED THE LAST ONE. WE HAVEN'T LEARNED ANYTHING IN WELL OVER A YEAR.

THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS ARE NOT ANY BETTER. A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS THAT ACTUALLY SHOW UP ARE ONLY ATTENDING TO QUALIFY FOR A GIFT AT THE HOLIDAY RAFFLE IN DECEMBER. I BLAME ALL OF THIS ON THAT RODNEY DANGERFIELD LOOK-A-LIKE. IMAGINE WHAT THE ENTIRE TEAMSTERS UNION WOULD BE LIKE IF WE SUPPORTED SANTANGELO'S LAST WHITE HOPE GEGARE. LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR LOCAL WHEN WE LET HIM FORCE ERIC THE SHORT-BUS DRIVER AND GIL THE BURNED OUT CHOLO ON US.

I know there has to be soooo many of us 848's that feel exactly as we do. and something has got to be done, if they are spending over 200,000 a month on maintaining one building and a small peice of one thats going, then something is seriously wrong. If they are going to be spending OUR money on bullshit we may have to force majority approval on each purchase or payment from here on out until we clean the cockroaches out of our barn!

I am still a proud member of 848. The minute we allow external forces to crumble our resolve and allegiance to the local, is the minute that we have given up on the faith that right makes might. There are definitely challenges ahead, but being an active, educated member is the cure to what ails us all. Don’t lay the blame with everyone else, rather with us the members. We are the local, we are what we will accept. Stay positive, we are all warriors of social change.
We must learn to live together as brothers or we are going to perish together as fools. MLK

Then i think some change needs to come our way. Its our local, its us paying the wages for piss poor representation! What I see is the money we all put into the local being burned up by worthless shits! I know I didnt vote Eric Tate into his position, I dont ever remember being given an opportunity to have a say in who is at the forefront of us all. Thats because Jim placed this clown there! The moment he asked to local to approva his purchasing of his vehicle, I knew this guy was fucken stupid, amd the fact that he does have that vehicle even after everyone voted no....well that just make all of us look stupid. and what the fuck are they spending over $200,000 in upgrades or uh what did they say 'maintenance' as they called it. I need to see what in the hell cost so much for lights, heat and air? Am I the only one who sees what is happening here? I used to see jim and emilio stop by my office.it was nice to not only know but to see that they took more than just a paycheck from us all. They were out making shit happen. I have seen Eric once, at my office. Did he take the time to stop and ask how things were going? Hell no, does he know my name? Uh no! Does he honestly give a fuck? NO!!! All he wants is his paycheck and whatever else he can scrape off the sides without anyone noticing. It was never jim who made he local feel empowered, it was Emilio. It was a total shock when all this sexual harassment came to light, and jim was resigning, it bummed me out....for about a second until i learned the entire truth of the matter, and now it just disgusts me to see the outcome of jims wrongful actions. Why didnt jim place emilio at the lead of us? cause he knew his chances were shit of ever being welcomed back. Now we all get to attend our monthly meetings and witness the bad sad truth of what we now have left....piss poor pieces of shit who cant even seem to run a meeting. I handnt been to a meeting for a while due to health issues but my first meeting back was just a big slap of disappointment. Come on who cant even set up a slide show? well not anyone running 848 these days that for sure....

Maybe Santangelo cared about the members at one time, but I believe that when he screwed over Mike Riley and became Joint Council President his fat head got even fatter and it was all about him. Guys I worked with thought he was the man who got us the good contracts but it was anothet Secretary Treasurer who handled the negotiaions for years. It's been all about Jim and only Jim. He could care less about the members. I mean if he did he would have paid the $500,000 himself and then resigned, and he never would have engaged in such despicable behavior as secretly taping sex acts (if true). He is an embarrassment to the Teamsters Union. How can he show his face? BECAUSE HE IS A NARCISSISTIC PIECE OF PERVERTED SHIT!

Your right, in regards to that it was Dick Martino Secretary-Treasurer-420/JC42, that got and maintained the good contracts on behalf of the union members throughout and lead and handled the negotiations in an excellent manner with dignity and honesty and received utmost respect as he always gave respect to the members and brought class to JC42.

Brother Martino was a great Teamster but he didn't have much to do with Local 848's negotiations. THE real star was Longtime Teamster Local 630 Leader Jerry Vercruse (rip) who spearheaded Food Negotiations for decades. Jim Santangelo was left to play cards in another room with everybody else while Brother Vercruse got the job done with the employer. All Santangelo was good for was fouling things up, which he did quite well. He needs to go away since all he does is bring a bad odor to the table; a total disgrace. He is an absolute nothing compared to Jerry Vercruse, whose legacy exists in the fantastic wages and benefits received by the Southern California Food Teamsters.

Do you know N. Martino? I believe she is the daughter of the gentleman that you are referring to. I need to get a hold of her. There is something she needs to know.

Santangelo was "not" on the JC42 board, not during the time respected D. Martino was in JC42 and JC42 has not been the same since then-RIP. D. Martino would have been our GP (before Hoffa)96' except-RIP. Both Real, respected and remembered longtime Teamster Leaders D. Martino and J. Veracruse, among others too. I remember Jerry. I remember many of the great Teamsters on the board at that time (earlier years) working together as a team effort for the betterment of our CA unions, including those Unions throughout US and Canada.

Dick Martino would be rolling over in his grave if he was alive to know the disgrace that currently is upon JC42 and all that he worked hard to accomplish for the betterment of the union members. The legacy of great Teamster Leaders will go on, (as remembered always)However, the choice is for other Teamsters to follow in their footsteps without failure, or greed, or disgracing our unions.

Jim Santangelo was just a poser, a con man who bullshitted. Look at his past. What a loser. Jerry Vercruse was a Real Teamster who took care of business for us.

Marci Vercruse

Some of us have a great respect for Jerry, as a matter of fact, we are looking for some pictures of him to use in a very positive fashion. If you can point me in a good direction to get some, it would be greatly appreciated and serve well in rememberence of him.
