Today the judge dismissed all the charges against all four Members. This should have never happened. I have been a Member of this local for many years and can never remember a time when a Member was charged with a felony for anything that happened in our hall. We have always handled our own problems and there has been plenty over the years. When is enough, enough with these clowns. They have continually lied about anything in their way they have tried to use the courts to further their course and have failed every time. They have wasted the Members money on their political agenda time after time. It is time to take these pieces of shit out, they have destroyed our Local and its reputation among the other Unions in this city and the employers. Local 631 has become the laughing stock in Las Vegas. I urge anyone who is involved in a local Union election to think twice about voting for anyone who calls themselves Reform or TDU they are the same. This group is the Reform slate, They called themselves the Empowerment Slate. I am telling you if you ask anyone in this Local who is empowered they will tell you John Philipenas and company are the only ones empowered here it sure as hell is not the Membership.

I doubt metro will be there. John has stated if it gets out of hand he will shut the meeting down. If thats the case all the meeting until the next election will be short. Everyone at that craft meeting knows what went down the night of that fight. Your story is correct Mr. King and at least your family has been cleared by the court. Hopefully all four of the accused get an attorney and fight back. Nobody else will fight for them so they need to do it themselves.

I went to the Local Union meeting last night and what a joke that was. Crack Head Hardison when asked how much reserves were in the health trust he stated that there was four months then Penis corrected him and said there was only one month in the reserves. They are both on the health trust as trustees aren't they? Why don't they both have the same answer. More proof they don't know what they are doing. The brother then asked do you know how much that will raise the taxes on that property and Crack Head replied no. How could you go and get your property rezoned and not know what the ramifications would be. Isn't that a stupid move? The Penis jumps up and starts praising one of his business agents for doing such a great job getting a government grant to build a training center next door. He said he has done something that is unprecedented. A Brother said that is not true that grant was obtained with the help of Harry Reid by Wayne King, Ed Burke and Rebbecca Smith. Who is lying here? Is this more of the same shit Penis and Crack Head taking credit for someone else's hard work? The brother also said there are strings attached to that grant and if they take it the Local is obligated to build the building. Where will the Local get the money when they say they are already broke.

One brother asked why they still had 3 business agents on full time in the conventions when there wasn't any work out there. Penis said he had 5 less than the previous administration. Is he really that stupid. I was @ gen. mbrshp. mtg. also and what a snoozefest! I was sadly disappointed at the dismal turnout. I expected the hall to be packed with pissed-off Teamsters. Could it be that Penas has the membership figured out and is counting on their apathy? Another brother present noted the low attendance resulted from the members' sense of hopelessness & "giving up" on the administration. Well said! Yes, I laughed when Penas said BA Lopresti was a "miracle worker" for supposedly securing a grant. (Is this the same "miracle worker" who was obnoxious & rude to women & children and threatened to throw them out during the Aug.26th back-2-school vaccination event @ the hall?) When brother Don MacName presented the truth about the grant's history, notice how suddenly Penas got hostile by huffing & puffing, raising his voice and finger pointing @ Don while interrupting him? He wouldn't even let him finish. Pretty pathetic but typical of bully-Penas who seems to be easily threatened by truthfulness. Also, they had plenty of time to have projected figures on tax-liabilities of the commercially re-zoned adjacent property. They just assumed nobody would catch or call them on that. What incentive do members now have to attend further meetings? ??:

Where did the Health and Welfare money really go? If there was 32 million in the fund a year ago like was reported to the DOL on a report that John Philipenas signed how could there only be one months reserve there now? John has told so many different stories to the Membership on what happened no one knows what to believe. He said that the actuaries that were in place when he took over were not giving him the right information. The fund was still making money months after he took it over and he kept the same actuaries. The fund went from 7 million to over 32 million while they were there.

I can tell you that the grant that John is bragging about was the work of Ed Burke and Myself with the help of Senator Reid's office and Harry personally. After we received the grant under the advice of the Trust attorney and the Trust accountant as well as the Internationals grant department we chose not to use the grant. The main reason for that decision was that it is a build grant and if you accept it you must build the building by a date certain. Being as the Local did not have the funds to build at that time and with the economy going down it would be foolish to take the money and bind the Local to an obligation that t could not afford. At this time nothing has changed. The building that was planned and needed was going to cost somewhere between 3 and 4 million dollars that is well beyond the means of the Local Union. The grant is for only three hundred thousand dollars not enough to cover the costs of the plans, soils tests, off site improvements and the utilities. The Local Union building cost over 2 million dollars to build in 1997. Now John and crew are claiming they can build the building for 1.25 million dollars. Good luck on that one. By taking this grant and not having the money nor the approval of the Membership to spend that kind of money and to build a building on Local Union property John has violated his office along with his whole executive board. He and the executive board have done exactly what he accused the prior administration of doing. He has bound the Local union to liabilities beyond his term of office as well as spent money far beyond his authority without Membership approval. As far as rezoning the property next to the hall from residential to commercial without the where with all to build is idiotic to say the least. All that they have done is open the door for the assessor's office to revalue the property and tax it at a lot higher rate. This could have been done at any time it didn't need to be done now and is just another added cost to an already struggling budget.

The next thing John is trying to take the credit for is the new automated dispatch system. This system was again the work of the previous administration. The previous administration with the expert help of Cheryl Schmit designed the system and had a programmer write the program and paid for it out of Union funds. The system was scheduled to go on line in January of 2009. However with the loss of the election John Philipenas has taken until now to learn how to implement it and find a way to take credit for it.

Every time anybody asks about anything John's excuse falls back on someone else in a prior administration. Case in point when a Member asked about the number of business agents he has in a specific industry John's answer was I have less than the previous administration. He is in a very different word isn't he? His membership is down by over 1000 members. The hours worked in nearly every industry is a fraction of what they were prior to him taking office. The prior administration negotiated virtually every contact in the Local in just over a year. John can't even get the construction contract negotiated and every contract that has been negotiated since he took office is a concession. He even wrote a concession article in his local paper before he even finished negotiations on the construction contract. That will really help won't it. The CSC firefighters have been working for nearly two years without a contract. John hired an in house attorney to cut costs and still spends 25 thousand dollars a month on out side attorneys.

Brother King from what I hear there are two people from the International coming to Las Vegas on the 13th to investigate the bullshit at the Local. If any of the Members have specific complaints with validity they need to call the international and leave a message for Ed Keyser or e-mail him at ekeyser@teamster.org. It is time to put these people away once and for all they have destroyed our Local with their lies and misrepresentations/

I so agree with that. With the Anniversary of 9/11, it is difficult to speak of the on-going loss of 631 and its Membership. Union Pride was an American Right.....Now our Pride as well as our benefits have been stripped. There is apathy everwhere. Heres praying for better days with new Leadership. This just speaks to how clueless these people really are. With the recent events and the huge loss off Membership, they still speak of the "Miracles" they preform. REALLY, do they think we are all "Forrest Gump" All I can say is "Run Forrest Run" run to save your Local before you have none. I heard the International is investigating the local leadership which is long over due. They current leadership has done nothing for the members but take away. I do not have much hope on the international doing anything for us in fact letters from members are pouring in and the international has done nothing all this time. Is this just show?
Whatever the outcome remember Hoffa is up for election this next year and if they do not fix our problems remember it and show up to vote him out. Needless to say our local needs fix.

I have heard from several sources that the IBT has interviewed dozens of members and will continue to do so. Don and Clove are telling everyone this is a dog and pony show by the IBT so our members feel like the IBT cares. It will be interesting to see what happens. If these investigators do their jobs they are going to find out that this group of current leadership does nothing but lie, cheat, and steal from the members. After 20 months of John Penis and his band of idiots being in office i hope their end is near. Isnt it ironic how all of a sudden the business agents are active at the worksites this week? Does anyone think this recent activity is because they care about their jobs?
