“By deleting the bipartisan, independent oil spill commission that’s received bipartisan support in both House and Senate committees, Democrats have shown they are more interested in protecting the President than getting independent answers to what caused this tragic Gulf spill. Some of the biggest failures that contributed to the Gulf disaster are the direct responsibility of the federal government and by deleting this bipartisan, independent commission, Democrats ensure that only the President’s hand-picked commission will be digging into any failures of his own Interior Department appointees. There is widespread agreement that no member of the President’s commission possesses technical expertise in oil drilling, and several are on the record in opposition to offshore drilling and support a moratorium that will cost thousands of jobs,” Hastings said.

I see no reason to "investigate" anything! Why waste the money? It is common knowledge what happened on the BP rig, they are not even denying it was their fault. An extensive inspection of all the rigs should continue in order to prevent any new spills, and new wells should be screened thoroughly before thehy are given a permit to drill.

The oil companies and their cohorts in DC want to turn the spill into a reason to push through shallow drillng in the Gulf which would make the seascape of the Gulf look like some gigantic oil field.

And I don't buy the bipartisan argument here the republicans in the Senate will only filibuster the legislation when it comes to the Senate..unless they get shallow drilling as part of the deal...after allthat's what the oil companies are paying them for!

Yea, I can see yours and Pelosi's point, It's all "common knowledge". "No need for the public to know anything. No need for any bipartisan investigation". "It's all the republicans fault because Oil companies pay the Republicans".

Now that you've managed to blame the Republicans (imagine that!) and the public denied an investigation,.... it's full steam ahead to pass all that unpopular energy agenda shit which normally wouldn't stand a chance of passing. Now the democrats can shove their energy agenda down our throats like they did "healthcare". What more can we expect from the Democrats who maintain the philosophy, "never let a good disaster go to waste"?
