X174driver: TDU is cannot be called dumb. Evil, ruthless, diabolical, deranged, maybe, but not dumb. They have a plan and they are executing their plan. What's dumb is not paying attention to that. I'll bet there were more than ten people there. There were three local presidents from locals totaling over 10,000 members.

Silent1: what is your question?
Yes there were more than ten people at that event and most are not members of TDU. Out of the three presidents that spoke only one of them is a TDU leader.

I walked right in. They asked me what local I was from and if I wanted to join. I told them what local and said no thanks to joining. The classes were great and this is something the IBT should be doing in every region. They should spend our dues on teamster education not multiple salaries!!!

This just proves there is a "blacklist". What makes you any different from me? What is your definition of "old guard"? BTW, that phrase has been in use since the eighties. By any definition, Ron Carey was "old guard", he supported Joe T. in the good old days. Can you get any more "old guard" than that? And if he wasn't "old guard", was he a "New Teamster"? Another term that's so old it's not "new" anymore.

The IBT can and does provide educational meetings. What they can't do is combine that with politics and blacklist dues paying Teamsters, be they "new" or "old" or something in between.

What sounds like something a 814 member would do??? Listen I do not like the fact that TDU does not have anything good to say about our Union. I support my Union on a local and international level by never doing anything that will lose respect for my Union. I'm a member of 814 which at one time (late 80's) had around 5,000 members and now maybe 1,000. Why? Because we had leaders that sold out the members by giving out sweetheart contracts. One of those leaders was appointed by Ron Carey to be head of the east coast house-hold division...so believe me I'm no big fan of TDU. Let's face the facts REFORM is needed in this Union now more than ever, we have to stop the "go along to get along" mentality! Officers on every level should NOT have multiple salaries and pensions. Our leaders should not have a corporate America life style...

How many TDU members in locals have multiple salaries and pensions? As far as your meeting, how long would you have lasted at this meeting if you asked where and who does TDU get it!s money from.In local 138 our TDU officals never took raises just bribes to gut contracts and when they got caught they took their case all the way to the Supreme Court with the help of a Nader group you see it was more important to protect TDU than the members.

The two TDU presidents I know of, only collect one salary and pension, and their salaries are not that great. Your issue with TDU came from a couple bad apples at your local. How about Jim Santangelo he resigned after settling sexual harassment suit for $500,000 with members money. Fred Gegare he cut members retirement while taking multiple FAT pensions or his own. Fred Zuckerman was missing in action while carhaul carriers dismantle the national contract. The list go's on and on...On your earlier post you blamed TDU for the Union's decline in membership. That was all under these men administrations Frank Fitzsimmons, Roy Williams, Jackie Presser, William McCarthy...and now under Hoffa the Union has shrunk by 100,000 members.

dolly pusher..tell me about this reform you speak of? Are the new officers of lu 804 and 814 or 805 for that matter going to fore-go their joint council pensions? My local once had 15,000 members but its decline was not due to corruption nor a need for reform.

Like I have said before bad is bad no matter who it is and if you steal from the members you should go to jail. With TDU bad is only when someone on the other side does something not when it involves them.Getting back to salaries and pension if you go back to Ron Carey and his( TDU) group they all took multiple pensions and salaries and put us as a union in the poor house and lost members. As far as 138 goes it was 4 officals and one who knew and said nothing(that one was on TDU steering committee) I don!t know what happened with Santangelo or for that matter I also do not know what happened with Paff and his office worker we can only hope they both get help.I might also add that under TDU the warehouse divison was destroyed costing thousands of good paying jobs.Look at the whole picture foreman they are not what they claim to be .you never answered where they get their funding, you should have ask at the meeting.

Did the Pope talk about all of the training programs the International does every year - over 200 of them regionally and locally open to ALL Teamsters - not just TDU'ers? I heard the 804 guys recently attended the training for new officers in Washington. Also did the Pope talk about how the IBT is supporting her campaign at Fresh Direct with a big influx of money.

Now who's playing politics?
