Enjoy this long three day weekend. For some of us, it may be our last as a DHL Teamster.

DPWN Plans DHL Turnaround

The owners of DHL plan to announce changes in the carrier's troubled U.S. express business next week that industry experts believe will include a sharp withdrawal from many asset-based operations in the United States.

Deutsche Post World Net set a press conference on Wednesday in Bonn to detail its solution for a business unit investment analysts say is on track to lose more than $900 million this year.

On hand to discuss the DPWN plan for its sagging unit will be Chief Executive Officer Frank Appel, Chief Financial Officer John Allan and Management Board Member and DHL Express CEO John Mullen.

Despite financial analysts' calls to exit the U.S. business because of continued losses there, the DPWN leadership has assured customers and employees that it plans and needs to stay put to operate effectively in the international arena.

While DPWN and DHL have refused to comment on what its turnaround strategy could be, analysts and DHL insiders say plans include cutting facilities, shifting ground operations to the U.S. Postal Service, focusing on major clients and raising rates.

For some one new to this you sure are "doom and gloom".
You have some ideas of your own I hope they haven't talked about.
So far as this being the "last as a DHL Teamster" don't you realize there are many who haven' t had 1 day as a Teamster. Count your blessings, my friend, for every door that closes, another opens.
I have too many years in to leave on my own but the way it is being run down I think they would be doing me a favor.
I opt for a buyout, they offer none.
I could get work in a number of places but would prefer to finish here so long as the Teamsters do not break from bending. DP sucks and DHL/U.S. made itself into this mess. The economy sucks and they would like to blame us. the employees, for that too.
I say the sooner the announcement the better. They have kept us all waiting and messing with our lives having no regard to our needs at all. I can hardly wait to make sure they get what they ask for. I am ready to give it to them.

I'm not trying to be a "doom and gloomer". I'm just being realistic based on the facts. The whole global economic system is ready to crash. Even if DHL USA somehow is able to continue doing business and we continue to get weekly paychecks there is still the issue of the falling dollar and rising fuel costs. There is the issue of global warming and increasing environmental disasters. We are on the edge of a new era in human history. Whether or not we have jobs is irrelevant in the changes that are taking place globally.

Doug, I meant the MD newbie and I agree the world situation is of a much larger reality.
There is not much I can do about most of that either.
Be well
