This is the problem with Socialism and Communists; the best get penalized and the worst are rewarded. No were can this be seen than in this Communist Socialist Teamsters Pension Fund.

The Trustees of the New England Pension fund reported a 1,264 billion asset to liability short fall. None of this short fall is the fault of UPS or its workers BUT they will be the one that, if they stay, will shoulder the burden for it. Already the trustees have moved the goal post and effectively canceled the pensions of 10s of thousands of UPS workers in N.E. I say cancel because few will make the arduous physically demanding road to 30 years in the “new UPS” work loads and production standards.

While over a million non-UPS teamsters enjoy a windfall benefit pay out vs what their companies paid in for, some as high as 500% gains, the UPS workers already receive a 60% loss in cash paid in vs benefits paid out. Heck 1.264 billion comes from companies that aren’t paying in at all or under funding there requirements.

And why should they fund there plans when UPS and its workers carries their load? Why would the Teamsters want to change the scheme that rips off 10s of thousands of UPS workers? Negotiate contracts that represent and pay benefits based on ACTUAL contribution by the companies: Hell no! Then they couldn’t look like rainmakers and self-important demigod they parade themselves around as during these Teamster junket.

Its time for the UPS workers to revolt against this communist socialism that meet out upon them a gross injustice and wholesale insults to there person and financial future. WHAT EVER IT TAKES. Decertify, accept UPS, if they offer a plan, organize our own union, or anything within our powers to end the injustice. FAILURE TO DO SO guarantees more and deeper benefits cuts and years more of required service.

Hey 101, I worked for UPS in feeders for a time as a casual, and can tell you that Feeder drivers can work 50 yrs, and not get burnt out. Thats gotta be the easiest driving job I've ever had, and I didn't even get the gravy cause I was a casual. The only people there that work their asses off are the loaders, and most of them are part timers and not interested in 30 yr pensions to begin with.
Without the Union I'm thinking UPSers wouldn't be getting the rate of pay they get, along with health benefits. They'd probably right in the ballpark with Fed-Ex where they can shit can you anytime they please if they think your not doing the job, and believe me, theres plenty of guys at UPS that think there're priviledged, and the world owes them a living. Those people are the ones that BETTER HOPE they never get rid of the Union, cause if that happens, they will be the next ones gone

Yo dipstick, You were not listening to the subject. He said in laymans terms that the teamsters NE pension fund is over 1BILLION dollars in dept. And that although UPS is a profitable co, Only 40% of their contributions to the fund go to UPS retired teamsters. The rest goes to teamsters who's companies went under, and or no longer contribute to the fund or have not in good faith contributed to the fund while they were in buisness.. In other words .........Get the hell out b/4 the ship goes down or you will go down with it!!!!!!!

P.S
By the way, The reason most of the loaders are part time is because of the wonderfull contract that the teamsters negotiated. Did you know that under a teamster contract that as much as 90% of the work force can be negotiated in a contract as part time!!!!!!!!!!

 The screaming eagle has got a good point for all to consider. Is anyone watching the cookie jar? The kind of debt that this pension has is not a good sign for the future of retired Teamsters and this will affect the union as a whole. We might have to man the lifeboats cause the ship might be sinking, all we the rank and file must do is to have the leadership change the way they do business or our leadership will be just as bad as a company, Vote this year, let your free voice be heard, hunt for the real truth and publish it for all to see so that our union can remain a steadfast bastion of freedom for the working people of America, for if we let them employers would make all of us slaves. 8-)

Another case of a couple of really smart guys who know jack about anything but ME!!!! Bail-out scab-out rat-out sell-out and its all about me. Forget that pensions are based on individual contributions.Forget that defined benefits are under attack by the neo-con pigs that want to turn this into Mexico. Forget what being a true teamster is.Its, not communism its working men and women battling the lie that is the APWA. These are nothing but a bunch of union busting self serving derelicts that want to lead you the way of Sean Hannity, and Rush Limpbaugh. The pied pipers for the uneducated and misinformed.UPS is not the majority of this union only the majority employer. Tens of thousands of Teamsters all around the country contibute to our funds with the same amount of sweat and dedication as you clowns. Thier work should mean less than yours? Instead of supporting this bullshit why don't you help make this union stronger. No true Teamster would segregate himself by employer or status. LEAD FOLLOW OR GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY SCAB!

 That is why our pensions are separated by conference and different administrators. Yet still it is important for us members to monitor the pension and really be up on the issues. I think that we are working union people that are many times taken advantage of by people in adminisrations that have people within them that have a socialist communist agenda, so as members of the rank and file we must be our own watchdogs of what is always taking place with our union. I feel a lot of our problems stem from individuals that get into office and become comfortable with position and power, forgetting where they came from. That is why I am for some kind of term limitation for elected and appointed officers.

Enough of the socialist communist crap. Strength comes in numbers and the realization that none of us can do this of and by ourselves. Reality is that those that have will not share with those that dont. PERIOD. Pensions are in far greater peril outside this union than within. It is geo- political its bigger than you or me,Buying into these phonies and frauds that want to tear us down is not the answer. Politically we have been sold a lie its not the fault of Hoffa, Carey or any other union leader these funds reflect the economic reality of the misguided polices of our politicians. None of this happened by accident don't blame the very people who fight against this sellout of working people.Funds are forced to make responsible fudiciary judgements to sustain thier viability. Those that would use this for poltical gain are charlitans, and those that are attempting to divide us are the very people who want to destroy unions. Be grateful you are somewhere you can bitch about your pension. Everyone else's is being abolished.Bitch about your pensions payout then try to sustain that same defined benefit package over a long healthy retirement period with a 401-K. Our way of life depends on us remembering what those teamsters before us stood together to fight. Stop blaming the Union and hold these corporate robber barons and spin doctors who tap into our own selfish desires. Lock arms with your brothers and sisters and take on the real enemy. Hopefully we don't find them in the mirror and embarass our predecesors.

Ok then how about all those gansters that raided pension funds , Teamster pension funds. You can try to twist and shout but truth is truth. So we can stick together by not letting that kind of thing from happening by accepting political propaganda by denying the truth. Good try though but some of those in the past screwed up. Freedom is a responsibility that must be excercised by the membership just like you and I are doing. Isn't it wonderful that we have it to utilize? Thank you for reminding all of us of that. Gratefully and fraternally another Teamster that knows we need change.

Hold on there I'm still trying to follow some of your previous remarks. You mentioned the seperation of funds, you are speaking to the N.E. fund or at least this thread started in referance to that. The central states fund was the one used out in Vegas and a not often shared fact is that the monies were repaid with interest. All pensions with rare exception took a hit around 911,whether they be private, public, or union backed. Electing or changing trustees only puts other people in the same tough spot. If your pay gets cut you have to tighten the budget. Thats whats going on here. The blame game and musical trustees won't solve our problems.

 What else would you suggest besides tightening our budget? You have a rare insight that a lot of us lack and I like the info that you do provide with your posts. However there still seems to be a problem in the Northeastern region pension that needs some correction. I am just as concerned as you are about these type of issues just because they affect all of us in the Teamsters union, We all pay for the mistakes of a few and yes a constant change of oversight may not be the answer but a solution is what we need, any and all suggestions would be welcome. We still should look outside and inside the union for these causes of this great loss to this N.E. Pension Fund because a deficit is a deficit no matter how we all look at it whether or not we blame or don't blame but there is some responsibility needed to be accepted by whom I don't quite have the answer. Yet I know that you out there will post some answer here on T-Net, let us all use this forum to have a healthy disscussion about this issue. Fraternally a Teamster that wants change for the better.  Just searching for solutions.

I agree the situation is tough if not daunting. The trustees as you know are made up of union as well as employer trustees in order to protect the members and companies both. My belief is that many are politcizing an issue that is impacting anyone involved in a pension fund anywhere. Granted some funds are worse off than others. I worry that people that choose to simply bail are being very short sighted and only putting themselves and others at risk. As for answers: fudiciary responsibility, organizing, and the realization that we all must stick together through tough times. Many of our other funds are beginning to show improvement due to these responsible cuts. Its a tough spot for all of us brother and there are not any quick easy answers. Certainly bailing and following the turds that call themselves the APWA aint the answer.

"...organizing,and the realization that we all must stick together through tough times"= socialism
"Many of our other funds are beginning to show improvement due to these responsible cuts. Its a tough spot for all of us brother and there are not any quick easy answers." = robbing Peter to pay Paul

socialism + robbing Peter to pay Paul= screwing and riding the coat tails of UPS employees who were counting on their well deserved retirement funds to be in the pension where they put them

Thats division thru subtraction=losses for everyone. Ups is simply the largest employer contibuting to our funds now. Monies from multiple other employers equal and exceed thier contributions now as well previously. Your pension contributions are individual therefore making your pension portable. I'm sure you can rest secure in the knowledge that brown will never fire you and given thier own means they will offer you a better deal based on your selfish shortsightedness. Invesments including 401-k's and other pensions all took a hit .If you live any period of time history proves out defined benefits outstrip lump sums such as 401 k's and annuities. Simple math,Common sense be a Teamster not a self serving short sighted fool.
Check out the history on that. Test tommorrow.

I think going and getting money back from BAs and Teamster big wigs who draw
multiple paychecks, kickbacks and multiple pensions would be a great start
in rebuilding our pension funds. We should go back at least thirty years and
sue estates if deceased.
