[b]GRASS ROOT MOVEMENT STARTED TO OUST THE TEAMSTERS FROM UPS!
The employees of UPS have started a new union called the APWA, "The Assocication of Parcel Workers of America." It appears that this organization is gaining momentum extremely quick. With sightings of their ad flyers in 31 states, this group has shown UPS and the Teamsters that they are serious! Recognized by both the Teamsters and UPS, as competing for collective bargaining rights, the employee driven APWA has certainly got Hoffa's attention!
You can read more about the APWA at their website www.itsmymap.com

Well said, Gandalf, on both counts.

Upon reading "feeders" rebuttal to your initial comment, this poster's legitimacy/validity was no longer in question.

Yes this union is legitimate. Keep in mind that they do not have collective bargaining rights now. They plan to petition for an NLRB election at UPS. Some laugh at the $7000 a month pension for 30 years in the new plan, but keep in mind that the mechanics in Richmond, Va who are in the Machinist Union, gets $5700 a month now for their pension.

I wasn't aware that "the mechanics in Richmond, Va who are in the Machinist Union, gets $5700 a month now for their pension".

Given what I've been seeing on the I.A.M.'s website ("http://www.iamaw.org/wgateway.asp?cid=6102"), I thought their members (given the massive losses to their membership in the aeronuatics and airline industries) were concerned about having ANY pensions in the future....let alone promising the amounts you're talking about. In fact, isn't the current blast of airline bankrucptcies threatening to throw that union's entire pension structure into the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (i.e - bankrupcty and receivership)? Only pointing out that because, from what I've been reading, the "Machinist Union" pension programs are ones that are in even worse shape than the Teamsters'.

I'll check with my buddy who is a mech in Richmond. I'm not exactly sure of the name of the union. Something like Machinist and Toolworkers of America. I will check to see if they are with the airline machinist union.

ya your pension is right for the mechs. except you have the decimal point in the wrong spot. its $570.00 a month.
get some reallity into your figures, look up (on a financial site) how much money you would need to draw $7000 a month, I'm trying to show some respect here but its hard when morons get sucked into scams

I guess you didn't read UPS senior vice prez statement before the congressional oversite committee, that the amount of money UPS plays into the multi-employer fund, all of their employees should be drawing $70,000 a year pension now. Why don't you research the facts before you post?

Guess I didn't read that either. But it leads to the question...why would (or "should") ANY UPS "employee" be drawing ANY "pension" at all....let alone one of $70,000/year? In short, I doubt if any UPS official made such a statement.

Beyond that, I believe I may be getting your point, but I think you're going to have to refine it a bit before it's suitable for presentation to the masses. I've no doubt that UPS Teamster employees, in terms of their pensions, at least, HAVE gotten the short end of the stick from their union. And, as for me personally, I might be at the point where I'd approve of any action that brings dissension within the union. Not sure it would do much good for the members, however. Seems to me that nows the time for their being unified in a responsible form of unionism that looks toward guaranteeing their future, as opposed to continuing the chaos that has damned near led to their demise as a union.

If you are a UPS employee, you can go to UPSers.com and get the info. If not I will find and post the sites that lists the transcript of the testimony.

Isn't it a point though, that because it is a multi-employer fund, perhaps the vice-prez of UPS would say something like that at a Congressional oversight hearing. The point UPS might try to make, because I believe they are trying to get out of the multi-employer fund, would be that, with the amount UPS contributes, it's (brown) employees should be able to pull approx. $6,000/mo, but because it goes into a joint fund, UPS' employees are not benefiting as much as they might. Ah shaw, they really care. And I, for one, believe they have my best interests in mind. Not. I believe they're thinking they can offer us more than what our benefit is currently, taking the pension away from the union, and save themselves a whole lot of money in the process. The other scenario, if that's what was said by the vice-prez, makes a better, more magnanimous argument though. Would we trust UPS to administer our retirement? I wouldn't, they haven't done so well with what they promised in the contract, in my opinion.

Think you're missing the point of your assertion that "all of their employees should be drawing $70,000 a year pension now".

In fact, "employees" don't draw pensions at all.....rather, "retirees" or "pensioners" do. And I seriously doubt that any UPS executive would make a statement asserting that employees should be receiving one. That one might assert that, based on the funds the company contributed to the funds, UPS employees could be ELIGIBLE to receive such a pension AFTER THEY RETIRE is another thing entirely.

Again, I recognize the point you're trying to make, but you're going to have a hard time convincing others of it if you try to peddle such transparently false information.
