Just curious...How well does your Union representative communicate or interact with you?
That is your union steward, business agent, or higher union officials?

Now that there are many many cases that were to be addressed at the National Panel, what happened? I have a family and I loved my job. What has happened to all of the 22.3 jobs? Doesn't anyone care? Is it my local union's fault or is it the international's issue to deal with. Can someone just be honest with all of us 22.3 employees or used to be 22.3 employees?

22.3 Jobs

I need some help with situation that has happen to me while working at my UPS Hub. Back in 2006 there were some 22.3 Job position open to part-time employees. I signed the bid list to be called just like everyone else. Well I found out that an individual had gotten the job and I had a suspecion that he was not higher than I was on the seniority list. We were having a lot of problems with the individual who was overseeing the hiring of 22.3 Jobs with not return our calls, we would then go through the steward to find out if the individuals that got hired was senior to us. I went to my steward to find out if this individual was senior to me and was told by him that the guy I had questions about was indeed senior to me, so I did not pursue it any further. Well to make a long story short the 23.3 Jobs come up for an annual rebid of all their jobs a list is put out with the hire date of all the 22.3 Jobs. I found out the the individual I had question was not senior to me, so I call my steward, he told me that information that he got from the hiring person was that he was senior to me. I have a witness that I indeed talk to the steward about seniority of the person that got hired. The person who got the Job was not long after that became a steward. What do I do.

9.5 language...how does your local handle it?

I am curious to know how other locals around are handling the 9.5 language?

Our supervisors post the bid sheets for drivers to Opt-into the language, everyone signs up, then we file the grievances for the the violations that follow shortly.

When the grievant receives his/her settlement letter from the union (for the first violation) it reads something like----You will now be placed on the 9.5 list----

Why do we have language outlining the proceedure by which to handle this issue if our Local Union is going to give the company a free pass? This tactic of giving 2 free shots a year at the drivers is costing us thousands of dollars.

How does your Local handle this?

2009 4th quarter profits due out Feb 2

Make sure everyone checks UPS profits in the upcoming days ( after Feb. 2nd ) to see 4th quarter profits at UPS. I think it will be around 1.3 billion. It is good to be in the know , that way when management starts telling you the company is losing money , you can tell them the true numbers. Be smart , arm yourself with knowledge.

Deputy strikes UPS truck

Deputy strikes UPS truck

An unmarked Des Moines County Sheriff's Office vehicle sustained thousands of dollars in damages after it struck a parked United Parcel Service delivery truck, Burlington Police officials said.

According to an accident report, the incident happened Jan. 5 at approximately 3 p.m. The deputy, identified as Matthew Breckon, was not injured, the report stated.

Authorities said Breckon told officers he was driving an unmarked 2007 Ford Explorer XLT north on Vogt Street when the accident occurred.

Breckon, a report indicated, told police he was using his in-car computer and did not noticed the UPS truck parked alongside the street until the last second.

The deputy swerved in an attempt to miss the delivery truck, but a panel of the Explorer still struck the left rear bumper of the UPS truck.

Police estimate the damage to the sheriff's office vehicle at $4,000 and listed $500 damage to the delivery truck.

No citations were issued.

I worked for UPS for 2 yrs then took military leave and joined the marines. Now its about that time for me to go back to UPS. So i was just wondering if anybody has done it before? and if it was a smooth return and it was everything they expected? like their pay and everything? and how much easier life was with the seniority they earned while they were gone?

Performance Rides

Had a driver ojs for the last three days. Management said he was the "least best driver" at our center. He was "told" to ride with this driver because he was 1.72 over on Monday. Has this been a problem in your work areas? It's just another harassment technique by the company, imho. It is only a short time before somebody at UPS goes "postal". NOBODY is ten foot tall and bulletproof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Narrowing Gap

At upers.com an article "The Need for Change" had some interesting data. While the U.S. small package business unit remains profitable, expense per piece has grown faster than revenue per piece since 2006, closing the gap between the two. In Q3-06 net revenue was $8.80 and expense was $7.50 a difference of $1.30 per piece, In Q3-09
net revenue was $8.50 and expense was $7.90 a difference of ONLY 60 cents. That trend has to be curtailed and it must be done now! I am sure high labor costs will come into the headlines in the near future!
