Management Following Drivers In Pov's

Ok, I don't know for sure if this is allowed. My husband has been driving since May. He told me that one of the managers (or on car sups) was following him in his POV while he was doing his routes. What kind of place is this. That is just crazy to me. I have the union hand book and let me tell you I don't see anything about managers beening allowed to follow drivers to do a eval. I thought that was what the ride along was for.

Now onto the 2nd part. I do see in the "book" it states that no driver will be scheduled for more than 1 day's ride per year. My husband has already done his 30 days of hell as they put it. Well he got a call from his manager tonight saying that the district manager is riding with him tomorrow. What is that all about. Why would the district manager be riding with a driver. Don't they sit behind a desk.

I have a hard time trusting UPS at this point. Yes it is a good company to work for. But they do some things that just don't add up to me. Now has anyone else ever had anything like this happen. This just doesn't sit well in my gut.

Thanks for your help.

Why Should America Lead The World ?

I heard a friend of mine make what I believe was a foolish statement - it went like this " Why Does America has to lead the world - why not let the other countries do it ?"

What he was referring in a later comment was - that America acts like it's the only one that knows right from wrong and that people hate us because "we act like the world boss". He may have a point - but my question would be - who then, if not America?
Really think about it - we suffered a terrorist attack and we struck back. How many other European countries have suffered terrorist attacks and have taken a massive undertaking to retaliate?

Here is another point - no matter if we were right or wrong - we started the war in Iraq and we had the resolve to continue - while other countries started to wane and run in fear. Fear of political unrest, fear of terrorist, fear of criticism.... Spain was attacked by terrorist and 191 people died and 1,800 people were injured - what did Spain do ... they voted their officials out and pulled out their troops. How brave they must feel and how sad that they gave in to terrorist attacks.

Posted by Sturgent

Full blog here http://yuthink.blogspot.com/2008/07/whay-s...lead-world.html

Logic Vs Emotion

Monday, August 18, 2008, 08:45 PM

One of the problems with political debate is that many people take a stance based on emotion rather than logic. This is especially apparent when it comes to a "crisis" such as global warming, welfare, or illegal immigration. For every political problem, there is usually a solution that will work, but quite often that solution is not implemented because it upsets someone. Instead, attempts to solve the problem often just make it worse.

Surprisingly few people in this world take a logical approach to anything, especially politics. It's always easier to blame a situation on someone than to look for a positive outcome. What many don't realize is that people with an agenda will use emotion to gain popular support, and are frequently dishonest in doing so. Any time you see a popular political fad gaining traction in the media, supported by actors and pop singers, you can be certain you're not being told the facts. (After all, what gives Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, and George Clooney credibility? What university degrees do they hold?)

Let's take a look at some recent issues (circa 2008) that hold an emotional appeal:

·Global warming: (if we don't stop driving SUVs, the ice caps will melt and the world will flood by the end of the century)

·Illegal immigration: (insistence on enforcing immigration laws is purely racist, and discriminates against poor people)

·The war in Iraq: (Bush and Cheney started the war so they could give fat contracts to their friends at Haliburton; it's all about oil, and American soldiers are dying as a result)

·High gasoline prices: (it's BIG OIL again! Now they're jacking up prices to make a profit at the expense of American motorists. It's all about obscene profits)

·Hurricane Katrina: (the Federal government delayed its emergency response because the New Orleans victims were black; the whole thing is Bush's fault)

These are just a few examples, but you can find others every time you turn on the network news or read a newspaper. Every one of the issues above has a logical answer, but you'll rarely see it in print or on the news networks.

Full article here http://www.resourcesforattorneys.com/issue...ry080818-204551

The New Evangelical Politics

By E. J. Dionne Jr.
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Anyone who still doubts that the evangelical Christian world is going through a political revolution was not watching Pastor Rick Warren's presidential forum this weekend. The era of reducing Christianity to a narrow set of ideological commitments is over.

Just a few years ago, who would have imagined that Barack Obama and John McCain would hold a discussion of this sort in a church? Who would have thought that the session would be moderated by an evangelical pastor who was emphatic in counting both the Democrat and the Republican as his "friends"? Who would have predicted that in such a setting, the issues of abortion and gay marriage would not dominate the pastor's queries?

Oh, yes, and who would have anticipated that the passions of the pastor in question would be engaged not in the divisions created by the culture wars but in the imperative of civility in politics and the plight of the world's 148 million orphans? Here's betting that the next president will help some of those orphans find homes.

The notion that Christianity in general and evangelicalism in particular are by nature right-wing creeds has always been wrong. How can a faith built around a commitment to the poor and the vulnerable be seen as leading ineluctably to conservative political conclusions?

Full story here http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8081801850.html

Dallas Hoa Prohibits Parking F-150 In Driveway

Posted Aug 18th 2008 5:03PM by Michael Harley

Yet another example of a Homeowner's Association run amok... A Texas homeowner in Frisco (just north of Dallas) has been told by the Stonebriar HOA that his new Ford F-150 isn't allowed to be parked in his driveway. The Association, established to protect Jim Greenwood's interests (that's the theory at least), will allow his neighbor's Cadillac Escalades, Honda Ridgelines, and even a HUMMER or two, but his new pickup violates a rule that prohibits pickups in the driveway. When Mr. Greenwood inquired as to why a Lincoln Mark LT could park in the neighborhood, but his practically identical F-150 couldn't, the response from the HOA was, "'It's our belief that Lincoln markets to a different class of people." Doh! As of now, Mr. Greenwood's options are to get another vehicle, or move. If it were us, we'd replace the F-150 with a yellow Caterpillar 972H Wheel Loader. Yeah, that would get them to quickly change their mind... Thanks for the tip, Neil!

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/18/dallas-...2356x1200425678

Well, just how much more do WE need to do to "win" this war? We have gotten rid of the dastardly Sudam for them..Iraq has a Government in place that is turning a profit for THEIR country..while America gets further in debt..and to win the war WE need to do more?..What?...waste more of the lives of our troops..burden our own country with high gas prices, pay private contractors billions and not hold them accountable for where the money went..and continue to pour 10 billion dollars a month into the coffers and war effort in Iraq!

Maybe it's time for IRAQ to do more than pick up the oil profits we wrenched from Sudam and handed over to them!

BTW..just a litle "domestic" side note reguarding the "bail out" of the mortage banks that are failing..it was the "foregin" investors that put the pressure on the Congress to put up the money to cover their potential losses...not "bleeding heart liberas" lobbing for American families to be able to keep their homes...according to the Comptroller General of the United States!!...

No wonder Limbaugh, Bortz and Hannity aren't talking that one up these daya!

An Open Letter To Chuck Mack And Jim Hoffa

A couple of us had been telling everyone we could at the IBT and you, in particular, Brother Mack that the Officers of Local 85 were embezzleing money. You would listen. Finally, Brother Leo Deaner had someone look into it. When they did they found what we had been telling you all along. That many of the Officials at Local 85 had been embezzling money. The embezzlement ran so deep that even the secretaries were embezzling from both the Local AND the IBT along with some of the Officials-- from the Joint Council 7 Commercial Driving Program. Although I have never heard it from Brother Rome Aloise personally, I have heard on good auktority when he asked them for the records (all the records and billing somehow were changed from Local 70 to Local 85) they initially told him to basically go f--k himself and they would not turn over the records. The records are damning and they show how the Local Officials and employees embezzled monies from the IBT through false billing, and other abuses that took place. To the tune of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS they stole from the IBT-- and by extension the Membership of the IBT. Then you uncovered that they have stolen MILLIONS from Local 85 and the Membership of Local 85 and you have DONE NOTHING. You have tried to keep it quiet. That's your solution. Like if you keepit quet it will go away. When Ron Carey embezzled the monies from DRIVE with Bill Hamilton, Mike Ansara, SHARE and the Novemeber group, boy we had it ALL OVER the Internet-- didn't we?

Brother Chuck, I still love you to death, but I have to disagree with you on this one.
You're raising Hell in Local 624 over some BULLSHIT and you are letting these CROOKS AND EMBEZZLERS get away with bloody murder so that you won't look bad and you can quietly ride of into the Sunset toward retirement.

As I have stated to you NUMEROUS times in the past, both in person and on the phone, Brother Chuck: THIS IS JUST PLAIN WRONG AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS REALLY NOT A SOLUTION AT ALL.

You have conceeded to me, Brother Chuck, that through your actions (or lack therof) you have enabled this people to become bolder and do more until they thought they were untouchable and could get away with murder. It's time for this shit to stop, Brother!

Merging Local 95 with Local 70 may solve part of the problem, but it won't erase THE UNDISPUTABLE FACT that these people embezzled MILLIONS from both Local 85 and the IBT and they SHOULD be held accountable for their actions.

Otherwise, what kind of message are we sending to the Membership of the IBT? It's okay to embezzle millions (and we'll keep our mouths shut about it) as long as you at least through more words than deeds claim to support Brother Hoffa, and don't make any waves in the Joint Council?

Right is right, Brother Chuck and wrong is nobody!

No one is untouchable, Brother Chuck. And certainly not those inept, incompetent clowns who can't even EMBEZZLE right!

AS you know, both the IRB and the IBT Chief Investigator Tom Schatz are aware of these FEDERAL CRIMES these people committed-- which is even more reason for you to do the right thing, Brother Chuck.

I certainly don't question your morals or personak integrity, Brother Chuck, but as I have stated to you DOZENS UPON DOZENS of times (and will continue to state) I vehemently disagree with your solution to this problem. In fact, it's not a solution at all. Brothers Faaola, Elliot, and myself raised these very issues before the entire Joint Council-- and the Officials of the Local lloked at you square in the eye and LIED their asses off to all of you. They probably had a good laugh over it. Certainly we've told you numerous times the insuling names they call you behind your back, and the disgusting things they say about you, and how they ridule you in front of rank and file Members of the Local. Many times I've found myself standing up for both you and the leadership of the IBT when irt seems like you guys don't want to stand up for yourselves...

These guys are making you look bad, Brother. They are treating you like you are a punk. I'm not going to let them treat you like that, and I simply WON'T be treated like that myself.

This is far from over, Brother. We have not heard the end of this yet. And after three years of strife, these guys outed as the crooks they truly are, please rest assured of one thing. And I think you know me, and what I am capable of, to take this for what it's worth": I haven't even started yet. The last three years have been warming up. The truth is a motherfucker, and THE TRUTH cannot be suppressed forver. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY IN HELL that this will quitely go away and be forgotten. Watch what comes next!

Once gain, Brother: YOU NEED TO DO THE RIGHT THING and set an example of these guys! That NOBOBY should be allowed to steal from the Membership of the IBT.

Not surprisingly, he doesn't go back to the end of the Clinton administration for comparison sake. What is striking, however, is his claim that he'll "battle big oil," if elected president.

Given McCain's stances on offshore drilling, continuing government oil subsidies, lowering corporate tax rates, in addition to his huge campaign contributions from the oil industry, I have to wonder what kind of battle we'd really witness.

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008...battle-big-oil/

Politicians, Professional Wrestlers, And Proper Analogies

by Lonnie Ray Atkinson / August 18th, 2008

Politics as sport is a long used analogy. From the horse race coverage of election season to candidates coming out swinging in the debates, we love to relate political competition to our most cherished competitive games.

There’s just one problem with this analogy. We don’t take politics even half as seriously as we do sports.

Imagine turning on ESPN and watching commentators predict the outcome of Sunday’s big game based on who has the most handsome quarterback or whose kicker is cheating on their spouse. Imagine tuning into a commentator on sports radio explaining the chances of one team winning based on the fashion of that team’s uniform or the personality of their coach. To serious sports fans, this kind of analysis would be too much to bear.

Not so in the world of politics. In any given election season, such trivial issues are the rule and not the exception. In fact, superficial coverage has become so commonplace, the average voter is lucky to truly understand the policy stances of any major candidate, much less the independent candidates.

Full story here http://www.dissidentvoice.org/2008/08/poli...oper-analogies/
