Third Attempt to Garner Votes Fails

July 3, 2008

(Kansas City) -- For the third time, workers at UPS Freight in Kansas City overwhelmingly handed a fly-by-night organization claiming to be a labor union its walking papers in a vote yesterday.

Workers voted 157-58 against the Association of Parcel Workers of America, which according to recent filings with the Labor Department, is now insolvent.

"We are not surprised that this sham labor union was defeated for a third time in Kansas City," said Ken Hall, Director of the Teamsters Parcel Division and Teamsters Vice President. "They have been defeated in every terminal they have attempted to represent because UPS Freight workers have seen through their false promises."

The organization is run by two UPS workers who employ a union-busting attorney as their legal counsel. Neither of the two UPS workers have ever negotiated a contract or even represented workers as stewards.

I like the quotes in here by Teamster 41 president Ralph Stubbs. Ralph was never an organizer or business agent. He never did any work in the hall whatsoever besides being a part time lobbyist. Now he's president of the local (appointed not elected) and is talking about another union being a sham. Local 41 has had several failed attempts to organize overnite and now they seem a little bitter that someone else gave it a shot,

How much help did you do during the teamsters drive to organize UPS freight? It is easy to sit back and critize somebody else.

A few short years in our union and you feel you know enough to critisize, amazing!

I have been part of the new group of Teamsters at UPS freight and I can tell you that it has changed the place. We no longer have to take crap any longer and we are better off than ever. icon_biggrin.gif
