I am a part time employee at UPS, on my pay sub it says I have: OPD 3.00D and OTH 7.00D

What does that mean? And is it true that we get paid for unused sick days?

yes, you do get paid for un-used days

It means you have 3 option days and 7 sick days available

Jenn don't be confused by others. What that means is you have 3 option days and 7 hours which is really 2 days (3 1/2 hour guarantee) for part timers. You will be paid out for these days around Dec. 12th if unused. Krash article 60 section 1 paragraph C states the equivalent of (5) five days sick leave. Remember only the company refers to these days as sick days not the union.

ALamb,

I guess I should have been more specific and quoted the actual language when answering her question to avoid any confusion. And I deffinetly see your point on the union's view when it come's to the option week.

PTers are guranteed 3.5 hours when repoting for work, but they actually recieve 4 hours for personal holidays, paid holidays, vacation days and option days which would be under articale 49 section 1(D).

Jenn,

ALamb and I are in the southern supplements and I assume you are in another region since you have 3 and 7. You might want to talk with your steward and get a copy of the contract. Especially since each supplemenmt varies paticularly when it comes to how you are allowed to use these option days. We are permitted to take ours as we please without putting in a request as they do in the eastern supplements. But I would imagine as far as being paid for un-used "option", "personal" or "sick leave" days would be nationwide

Under the Atlantic Supplement , we have 5 personal days and 5 sick days. You are entitled to your 5 personal days after you have 2 years company seniority. The personal days can be used as another week of vacation or they can be used as 1 day off at a time. You have to give 8 days notice to be approved. .05% of the work force can be off on a day. Example : 30 employees times .05% is 1.5 rounded off to 2. As a driver you are entitled to 8 hours per personal and 4 hours per P/T.

overallowed,

Are they refered to as sick days in your supplement? And you have to be sick to use them?

On my pay check they are called " OTH " but in the contract book , they are called sick days. We have the option to take our 5 sick days as another week of vacation or one day at a time. Example , I have always used my 5 sick days as another week of vacation but some guys use them whenever. I have seen drivers come in and take the day off and tell the sups just to put them down for a sick day so I guess you can use them whenever.
