On june 9th the union and ups meet exchanging proposals. The union gave a full contract proposal while ups has piece mealed there counter proposals, while never even addressing the economics side of the contract. Since then both sides have meet another 3 times all last week with little being resolved. If ups is serious in gettting a deal done by july 31st they need to take this process a little more serious than they have.
The union since late last year has been gathering info and concerns from the members holding ups contract meetings with all of the employees and have spent alot of time gathering and addressing these issues. You know what ups has to say "NOT INTERESTED". The local has also posted our proposal and every counter proposal online at WWW.TEAMSTERSLOCAL705.ORG Never in my years have i seen any administration keep the members upto date on contract talks. You will also see other links for our freight contract talks. -------------------- VOTE POCZTOWSKI!!!VOTE FOR A TEAMSTER!!!!

The union asked in an information request for info that would help expediate the contract talks. Well after waiting for a month the company handed over the info yesterday missing a lot of the information that was requested! Leaving us to believe that they are not serious about settling this contract by july 31st. We meet with the company on june 9th for the 1st time and gave them a complete and full proposal that the membership authorized us to propose. The company had a full two weeks in order to make a complete counter proposal and instead they refuse to talk economics. While at the same time coming back piece mealing us with counter proposals here and there, very unproffesional. While at the same time we have made a total of 3 proposals 1 original and 2 counters in full once again. It did not take us 2 weeks to piece meal a counter within 2 days we had another full counter, if we can take it this serious why cant the company? We have meet over 6 days getting minimal accomplished (not due to our efforts) and have 8 meeting dates left and we havent even gotten into the nit and gritty of the contract.(economics) Will post more updates as we meet july 8th is the next date. -------------------- VOTE POCZTOWSKI!!!VOTE FOR A TEAMSTER!!!!

Same results at 710. Company not in any hurry to settle. I would guess they're probably kicking themselves for settling the National so soon with the fuel costs rising. They probably think they can hold our feet a little closer to the fire with bad economic times. Cut more routes than needed and put a scare into the younger drivers. I've been through 5 negotiations and I have to agree with 705, the company reps. act unprepaired and more like puppets than I've seen in the past. Definitely being dictated to by I.E. I.E. has no business in operations other than to tell them what things will cost. |

Contract talks arent going very well, ups insists on not addressing the whole contract and only pieces of it. Its been a month and economics have not been adrressed by the company. 23 days until the contract expires and we hit the streets. -------------------- VOTE POCZTOWSKI!!!VOTE FOR A TEAMSTER!!!!

Its been a month and economics have not been adrressed by the company. 23 days until the contract expires and we hit the streets. My gut feeling on this subject is the company no longer wants to negotiate multiple contracts. They want everyone in the country on the same page so to speak. They would like the pensions to pay the same everywhere to eliminate one local asking for more than another which leads to a constant one up on the others because of leverage they have from location. They can't accomplish this in one contract but have been trying a little at a time. They would like to kill two birds by having everyone under one national contract and thus having one negotiating team and allowing them to eliminate more of their own labor managers and staff. They are trying to simplify things so they can impliment their one full time supervisor in every bldg. plan. At this point it will no longer be possible for 710 or 705 to settle in time, mail ballots, return them, and count them. One of two things will happen. Either both work under an agreed extension or we hit the streets with pickets. I'm guessing we'll have an extension. The company will stall right up to the 11th hour and then will plead for the extension. I don't think they want a strike at this point. What purpose would it serve when the national is settled? My guess is they will drag this out as long as they can hoping the union will cave. |

In the new I.E. controlled UPS everyone has their job and can't go outside the box. That might explain some of the hold up. These guys can't fart without an ok from I.E. Still think things will get settled. The company would be complete idiots to prolong this. |

How long do you guys think this strike will last? Why are so many of us saying they will continue to work? I just don't feel like we are all together on this. My cousin is a feeder driver and he is telling me he and many others are going to work but out of a different hub. I'm worried. I'm fulltime.

Sounds as though a good tentative agreement (settlement) was reached today.

He wasnt booted by hall! Our contract is in alot better shape than it was. Look under the other thread were you blasted steve to see the positives that i listed, and i look forward to you pointing out the negatives. Keep looking you wont find anything, our language either changed for the better or stayed as current language, no moving backwards. -------------------- VOTE POCZTOWSKI!!!VOTE FOR A TEAMSTER!!!!

I tip my hat to you guys and just wished the rest of the UPSers were as strong as you guys. Hoffa gave back huge gains that Ron Carey got us years ago. Hoffa basically sold us out. Hoffa is a joke and that is putting it nicely. -------------------- When you fail to plan , you plan to fail!
