Roger Kohler and his reformers boasted all through out their campaign how they were more knowlegible and educated than the previous administration. So educated with college educations and experience they convinced some members they could run our local better than anyone else could. Reformers spen a lot of time selling the idea of buying a new $16000.00 copier because it contained a hard drive that would store documents and protect them from bieng lost to fire and other disasters. Now if only Roger in his infinite wisdome would have been patiant or done a little investigating he would have discovered that the village of West Chicago is building a fire station right next door to our local. LESS THAN 100FT. AWAY! Had Roger used that education he bragged about he could have saved the local a lot of time and money. So I guess the $9500.00 in software is not needed after all because we never needed the copier in the first place! What next?

Pardon the interjection, but this is extremely odd. You're saying that $16,000 was spent on a copy machine for reasons pertaining to disaster recovery? Have they ever heard of external hard drives for $100 a piece? Have they ever heard of online data storage for a nominal monthly fee? You can get roughly 10 gigs of storage space for about $10 a month.

Trust me, in the event of a raging inferno or a cyclone, that hard drive is toast along with the rest of the copier. And it would cost anywhere from $10,000 - $20,000 for a data recovery service to even attempt to recover the data from a damaged hard drive. That means they get paid whether or not they're successful. And lastly, in the event of a disaster there's no redundancy in a copy machine. Normally a high-end, expensive copy machine is purchased for high-volume production for companies cranking out around 15,000 pages an hour or more, but certainly not for disaster recovery of data. That's just a piss poor, lame excuse for buying an expensive toy.

Assuming this thing has print/fax capabilities as well, the toner cartridges run about $300-$400.

How big is your Local, by the way?

I believe the local has 2800 members and has new officals who are TDU members who think the locals monies are theirs and not the members.

Just as an example, I would consider this model to be overkill for a local that size, yet it still would've saved $8,000:

And you would be so right Grand Poobah, but our new Reformers dont care about saving the members money. No they just keep spending as if they just won the lotto. The Reform guys have been traveling all over the country on the members money, I heard they are now planning a trip for the ones who didnt get to go anywhere so they dont feel left out. The real sad part is the shrinking membership, from about 3100 now down to 2800 and with this economy it looks like it will get worse.

Well, if they can't cut costs and save money where it's really easy to save money (like copy machines and data storage) then things probably will get worse.
And with that "college degree = we're smarter than you" elitist mentality, to them they're never wrong no matter what you say.

You would be correct again GrandPoobah, the copier is only half of what Refrom wanted to spend in that area. $9500.00 in software has yet to be approved to go along with that copier, or maybe Roger has found a way to hide that expense too. What kind of software? They never said, they feel if they have to explain it to the members the members wouldnt understand it anyway. Textbook TDU!

Why don't you tell the guy how much was spent on the copier that the previous E board purchased? -- How much of a price difference is that ???????? ---- I know !!

Why don't you tell him why the membership is down right now? -- What are you gonna say when July rolls around and the membership is back up? --

Why don't you tell him about how there is a E board from 2 slates,- and how they are fighting each other on alot of things?

Why don't you tell him that this Current E board has been in office for approx. 4 1/2 months and yet you bust the balls of only the guys who weren't on the slate you voted OR wanted to vote for,and have been doing it even before they took office.

I think you already told GrandPoobah what you wanted him to know, but does it change any of the facts? Are you expecting the economy to rebound in July? Or is that when Reform has decided to get out of their offices and out of the bars and put members to work?

BINGO!!!@!
The e-board is not rolling over, they are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Kohler is always playing the "shell game" with the board.
Is Rob really that obvious? Must be, a guy that has only read Robs posts has him pegged, nice job 138!

Wow, once again, if you attended meetings before your Reform buddies came along, you would know that the copier the last board bought was NOT a replacement but an additional copier. One copier couldn't cut it. That copier was also capable of all of the things TDU Roger wants the new one to do. The price difference is about 1000. So what? Do you really think you know something that know one else knows? You are an idiot. Who gives a shit how much cheaper it is when you don't even need it! How hard is it to understand WE DIDN'T NEED A NEW $16,000 COPIER!!!

The copier is just the tip of the iceberg, is all reforms traveling necessery? Was Hawkins recent trip to Texas for union business or just a pleasure trip. I dont remember Reform reading the cost of this trip to the members at the last meeting.
