It seems ATA filed BK because FedEx canceled a key military contract. FedEx has been living high on the hog with tax-payer Federal subsidies and contracts since its beginning in the early 70s. And now 2,200 workers are laid off because of FedEx's decision not to use ATA to haul troops to and from war. It's time tax-payers and workers woke up to the danger of the special treatment that FedEx gets from Uncle Sam. Free market capitalism, it would seem, only works when the tax-payers subsidize your business operations. Of course, a war now and then helps your bottom line as well when you have a Federal contract.

The system is sick and broken.
