Savannah Teamsters and Longshoremen Rally In Solidarity With West Coast Port Workers


SAVANNAH, Ga., June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Savannah Teamsters and longshoremen gathered today in a display of solidarity with the more than 10,000 West Coast longshore workers whose ILWU labor agreement with the Pacific Maritime Association expires at 5:00 PM (PDT) Monday, July 1st. The rally took place at Gate #4 of the Port of Savannah.

It´s the 11th hour and the employers´ association still has their entire wish list on the table, making it difficult to reach an agreement. Employer demands include the elimination of the union hiring hall, ending the long- standing arbitration system, major cutbacks in health and pension benefits, and an insistence on a blank check for introduction of new technology.

"Teamster leaders up and down the East and West Coast and along the Gulf Coast are carefully monitoring these negotiations. We are prepared to offer unconditional support to the West Coast dock workers if talks collapse," said Waymon Stroud, President of Georgia Teamsters Local #728. "We intend to send a clear message to the ocean carriers that we strongly support the ILWU in its negotiations on behalf of West Coast longshoremen. An injury to one of our unions is an injury to all."

Yet, President Stroud has violated the contract and seniority rights of the clericals at Local 728 who are members of SEIU and are fighting for their rights as union members!

Our clericals at Atlanta Local 728 are members of the OPEIU Union, not the SEIU.
But none the less, they are both AFL-CIO Unions and they should show our clericals some respect as to their contractual rights.

It is the members of Local 728 that they work for, and who pays their salaries, not you Brother Stroud!

What is the matter Waymon,can´t you get any of your butt kissers to take up for you ?It would seem that they finally woke up and dicovered what a cut throat and no principle individual you really are.Kind of tuff standing alone ,when you cannot trust anyone to watch your back.
